Privacy Policy

Who we are

Poetic Fiddle (poeticfiddle.com) is operated by W W Initiatives Limited, a New Zealand company trading as Datum Process (“we”, “us”). For any question about this policy or your data, contact warwick@datumprocess.co.nz.

What we collect

• Account information. If you sign in, your email address, and, if you choose “Continue with Google”, the basic profile Google shares for sign-in (name, email address, profile picture). This is handled by our authentication provider, Supabase.
• Poems you write. The text of poems you author in the editor.
• Anonymous drafts. While you are not signed in, your in-progress poem is kept only in your own browser (using localStorage) — it is never sent to our servers. Signing in for the first time moves that draft into your account and clears it from the browser.

Signing in with Google

Google sign-in requests only the non-sensitive openid, email, and profile scopes, so we can identify you and show your email address once signed in. We don’t request or access anything else in your Google account.

Saving and sharing poems

Poetic Fiddle’s Save and Share actions store a signed-in poet’s poem content in our Supabase database. Each poem is stored with its text, title, and metadata, and is only readable by the poet who wrote it (enforced by row-level security). Poems can be shared via a unique link that allows anyone with the link to read the poem; the sharer can revoke the share at any time.

You can delete an individual poem yourself, at any time, from your My poems dashboard — this removes it permanently, immediately. You can also delete your entire account yourself from that same dashboard’s Danger zone — which removes your email address, all poems you wrote, and all share links you created, permanently and immediately. If you can’t sign in to do this yourself, email warwick@datumprocess.co.nz and we’ll delete it for you.

Cookies and tracking

We set only the essential cookie our authentication provider (Supabase) uses to keep you signed in. We use no third-party analytics or advertising trackers, so no cookie-consent banner is needed.

Who we share data with

We share data only with the processors that run the service, and only for that purpose:

• Supabase — our database, authentication, and storage provider. Our project is hosted in the Southeast Asia (Singapore) region.
• Vercel — hosts the web app.
• Sentry — records server-side errors and diagnostic logs so we can find and fix faults. It receives error and stack-trace details, the affected page or route, and opaque identifiers for the poem involved — never the text of your poem, and nothing collected in your browser. Our Sentry project is hosted in the European Union (EU) region.
• SMTP2GO — delivers our authentication emails: the magic-link and password messages that let you sign in.
• Google — only if you choose to sign in with Google.

Your rights

You can ask us to export your data at any time by emailing warwick@datumprocess.co.nz. You can delete your account yourself, at any time, from your My poems dashboard’s Danger zone. If you can’t sign in to do this yourself, email us at the same address and we’ll delete it for you. We keep account and poem data only for as long as your account exists.

Privacy breach notification

If a privacy breach occurs that is likely to result in serious harm to an individual’s privacy, we will notify the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and affected individuals without unreasonable delay, as the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020 requires. Notification will be sent to the email address associated with your account and will include details about the breach and the measures we are taking to protect your information. If you believe your personal information has been involved in a breach, please report it to warwick@datumprocess.co.nz.

Takedown and content removal

If you believe content on Poetic Fiddle infringes copyright, violates intellectual property rights, or breaches our Acceptable Use Policy, you can request its removal. Please email takedown@poeticfiddle.com with details of the content. When we remove content following a valid request, we remove it from all surfaces: the poet’s account, any share links, and the published site.

Minimum age

You must be at least 16 years old to create a Poetic Fiddle account.

Legal basis and jurisdiction

We handle personal data under the New Zealand Privacy Act 2020, and aim to meet GDPR/UK GDPR expectations for poets elsewhere, as our poets may be anywhere in the world.

We’ll update this page as Poetic Fiddle’s features change, and update the date at the top when we do.
